It happened at Dorcas in August

Olympics

We began the month of August with the project about the Olympics. The first activity was about recognizing the Olympic symbols, the athletes and their stories.

The children had art workshops, making torches from recycled materials and painting with natural elements.

They experienced various types of team and individual competitions such as: football, volleyball, cycling, and the relay race, which is a classic athletics event during the Olympics.

Fraternity Games

On August 4th, the 30th Fraternity Games took place at Newton Puppi Park in Campo Largo, with the participation of the Dorcas Scout Group.

The children and young people of the DSG were able to take part and had a blessed sunny day with lots of activities, friendships and learning.

“Reading is Very Good” Project

Here at Dorcas we encourage reading through the “Reading is Very Good” project, where we develop practical and reading activities.

Children's literature stimulates creativity, empathy, reasoning, respect, imagination, cognitive and language development and provides a broader view of the world.

Individual Reading Assistance

Every week, the Caminho de Davi (David’s Path) Institute has a member of staff available to help individual children. This allows us to give a boost to the children who are having the most difficulty.

Individual asssitance is extremely important when a child is struggling to become literate.

Doing punctuated reading with a mediator provides security to the student and reinforces all the syllabic patterns. We also manage to boost the self-esteem of children who don't feel capable.

It is a special and precious time, because the child feels loved!

Visit to the Caminho de Davi Institute

In August, a small group of children from Dorcas visited the Caminho de Davi Institute to watch the play: Yay! The Extraordinary Library of Alexandria.

We believe that we need to expand our students' repertoire through culture and art. This beautiful show reinforced the value of stories and books in people's lives.

Impulso Fest

Impulso Fest was an event designed to put into practice all the learning acquired throughout the first semester in the Events and Entrepreneurship classes.

There were 60 guests who enjoyed a cocktail party, fashion show and entrepreneurship fair.

The event took place on August 24th and was organized and run by the Dorcas teenagers.

New Exchange Student at Dorcas

For the third consecutive year, Dorcas and Zentrum für Mission und Ökumene – Nordkirche Weltweit are partnering through an exchange program with young Germans who have finished high school and are coming to volunteer in Brazilian cities.

From August 2024 until August 2025, Janne Lovis Sofie Bertram will be volunteering at Dorcas.
