Dorcas is like a day hospital that takes care of children and teenagers, with bodies, minds and souls. It provides care for nutrition, health, education, values, feelings and emotions. Dorcas provides well-being with physical and emotional security. It helps to release their wings so that they have freedom and may dream again.
We started the month of May with a task force for Orange May: a month dedicated to preventing and combating sexual abuse and exploitation of children and teenagers.
*May 18th is the national day to combat child sexual abuse and exploitation in Brazil.Orange May is an initiative that aims to give visibility to this matter.
Our call was “Nobody messes with us!” We have scheduled a month with several initiatives to strengthen the voice of the students and to train children and teenagers to take a stand against any type of violence, especially sexual violence.
The reflections that were generated were very important and involved the students since the Devotional Moment up to Scouting, resulting in deep conversations, reports and a lot of visual production to remember that nobody messes with us.
The children got to know the parts of the body.
In a playful way we talked about touches, who can touch us and types of emotions through stories and puppet theater.
Decision games.
We made the touch traffic light, in which children perceive and indicate where they like or dislike affection.
Anonymous question box.
In the Orange May devotionals, children learned in a relaxed way the importance of defending themselves against abuse and denouncing abusers.
Through the question box they were able to take a first step towards this and many are seeking help with our support network.
In some musicalization classes, we rescued a video made at Dorcas 10 years ago, where the song "A Cuíca e o Pandeiro" (“The Cuíca and the Tambourine”) was recorded, which talks about care and prevention of child abuse. The children were able to recognize some of the former students, sing along and become stronger in this fight.
In addition, in some choir classes we talked talk about physical touch, affection, the touch we like and also what we don't like.
Posters, t-shirts and other artistic interventions were prepared to engage the local community in this prevention campaign that will culminate in the Corrida da Paz (Peace Run) on June 6th at Bonfim Neighborhood.
We received a special visit from Márcia Olandim, national coordinator of school chaplaincy at MPC (Youth For Christ - YFC in Brazil), chaplain, storyteller and author of the book “A Receita da Felicidade” (“The Recipe for Hapiness”).
Christian, she loves to serve the kingdom of heaven! Márcia's mission is to bring hope to schools and to distribute her book for free, bringing God's love through storytelling to all children!
